After the shocking incident at the MTV VMAs when he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, he has canceled the tour with Lady Gaga, rumored to have gone on a refuge in India and has returned with a bold blog post which has given the press even more fuel to feed on.

Oh yes, and somewhere in between all that, his long awaited clothing line Pastelle, which he was promoting at the 2008  AMA Awards, has closed down before it was even launched.

With all this commotion, it’s good to hear that Kanye has gone back to what he’s best at – making music. Music that helped to propel him to being the 3rd Richest Rapper of 2009.

So far, there’s progress on the new album with Australian Connie “Miss Connie” Mitchell from the Sydney band Sneaky Sound System recording vocals for it in Hawaii.

In the same way as 50 Cent removed his tattoos, Pharrell cited roles in front of the screen as reasons for lasering away the tattoos that he hates.

Instead of a skin graft, he opted for “pure laser pain“.

In addition to his musical and acting interests, the rapper has also partnered with a Japanese fashion icon to launch two new lines of luxury clothing where he is modeling in the photo below.

In a recent post from the Pharrell’s Billionaires Boys Club blog, he is seen exposing his arms.

The image doesn’t give us a clear view, especially since he’s got his arms crossed with the lower part of his right arm covered.

That said, compared to before, Pharrell’s arms appear to have a lot less ink on them, assuming there’s not much makeup on them in the photo.

The article was posted on the website of 8th Avenue Communications. The director, Andrew
Mendelawitz, who wrote the article said, “The tools that make rap so communicative and catchy are not
new. Rappers intuitively used the exact same methods – alliteration, repetition, rhyme and meter – that
Churchill and Kennedy used.”

The article also posited that Obama’s allure springs from his ability to use figures of speech that are both
rap-like and sermon-like, which deeply resonate with a varied audience.

Mr Mendelawitz said, “Today’s leaders have forgotten the language of leadership. Obama’s speeches are
penned in the language of the black, the young, the religious and the disaffected, and for this reason he is
followed with messianic vigour. Revolutionaries don’t come in the form of a Martin Luther King Jr. these
days – they more often choose to communicate change through rap, blogs, or other means.”

“Rap music is the language of change, which is exactly the purpose of giving a speech: to stimulate
change.”

“Political leaders now speak in diffident corporate-speak that sounds evasive and weak. It doesn’t resonate
with anyone and those using this circumlocution will never be seen as leaders. If you want to resonate with
a Spaniard, speak Spanish: if you want to talk to the masses, use the language of the masses.”

Here’s a breakdown of the $150 million from the New York Times:

• US$25 million: Upfront payment
• US$25 million: General advance including fees for tours
• US$30 million: Advance payment of US$10million per album for a minimum of 3 albums
• US$20 million: Other payments including publishing, licensing and other rights.
• US$25 million: Overheads for new venture (Roc Nation) of US$5million per year for 5 years
• US$25 million: Available to finance Jay-Z’s acquisitions and investments

Some interesting points to note:

It seems that as part of the deal, Live Nation agreed to finance a new joint venture RocNation that would fund businesses, acquisitions and investments directed by Jay-Z of up to US$50 million.

There’s a US$25 million upfront payment and an Advance payment of US$10million per album for a minimum of 3 albums which probably contributed to Jay-Z’s estimated earnings of US$82 million in 2007-2008.

Profits from RocNation will be split with Live Nation and presumably, Jay-Z will also have a share in the profits from the ventures.

He was apparently called ‘Puff’ to reflect his ‘huff and puff’ mood when he got upset.

In 2001, after a weapons and bribery charge, he changed his name from ‘Puff Daddy’ to ‘P.Diddy’. In 2005, he changed it again from ‘P.Diddy’ to just ‘Diddy’.

Unfortunately, he was unable to use the name Diddy in the UK where he is still known as P.Diddy.
