Fiddy claims that he has to go through 4 hours of makeup to cover up tattoos on his body before a shoot. So, if there’s a 6am start, he needs to begin getting his tats covered at 2am. If this is true, it’s not surprising that he’s going to get them removed.

As rappers and fans continue to tattoo their bodies, those at the top of the game are doing the opposite. The process of removing tattoos is extremely costly and painful but 50 cent obviously thinks it’s worth it.

After all, what’s a bit of pain when you’re going to ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’.

According to the New York Post, 50 Cent is to planning on performing a free show near the Queens project where he grew up, as a kind gesture from the artist.

Parents from the surrounding community, however, are worried that things might get ugly. 50 performing in his old neighborhood is bound to stir up some emotions – most of all jealousy, and revenge – and suspect that there might be shootings or other violent crime.

Others, you can be sure, are choosing to stay away because of some absurd fear of 50 Cent’s lyrial content (which, we presume, their kids have already heard a 100 times on the internet).

Nevertheless, it could definitely turn ugly. Estimates indicate that over 10,000 people might show up for the free concert which would be a logistical and security nightmare for the local law enforcement agencies.

What do you say: should 50 forgo the concert out of concern for the safety of his audience, or should he move the concert elsewhere, or preferably, make it a paid concert to discourage trouble-makers (and keep the kids out)?

Not At the Top of His Game...

The annual MTV’s “Hottest in the Game” poll for the hottest MC on the hip hop scene has thrown up some usual results: Jay-Z, Kanye, Weezy, etc.

This year, however, the above mentioned rappers have received less than 5% of the votes.

The list of nominees this year, therefore, looks somewhat odd – more than 30 MCs make up the list, with the likes of Young Jeezy, Redman, Rick Ross, 50 Cent making up the 30.

The real surprise, however, is at the top of the pack: 50 cent and Joe Budden – a rapper I haven’t heard a lot of – making up the top two. Sure, 50 cent is always going to be at the very top of any list for best MCs of this decade, but Joe Budden (is that a pun on Joe Biden? I’m not sure.. )

As The Source puts it, if the winners turn out to be anything like the nominees and the current leaders of the pack, some feelings will be hurt.

Either way, the album should be a knocker. I loved Em’s last album, though I’ve never been much of a 50 fan. Nevertheless, this is an album I am looking forward to.

So 50 is finally set to do what every rapper worth his salt is out doing these days: rescue hip hop from Soulja Boy.

First, there was Jay-Z, out saving hip hop from auto-tune self destruction. Now its fifty, doing the same. We quote:

“What I fell in love with initially ain’t even in the mutha—-in’ art form anymore. It’s cool because there’s an opportunity for me to become [that] to a whole new generation … because of their age group, they’re not aware of it”

Great. So what exactly is this “war angel” thing? Fifty’s got a beef with new age hip hop artists, who are either busy making ringtones (a.k.a., Soulja Boy), or selling designer shoes while sipping champagne (a.k.a., Kanye West).

Either way, serious rap fans are in for a treat. First there was Eminem with the excellent Relapse (see our review). Then there was Jay-Z ruffling some feathers with his “D.O.A. – Death of Auto Tune”, and now its fifty with “War Angel”. This should make for an awesome summer of hip hop.

When you’re named 50 cent, and your first album is named “Get Rich or Die Tryin’”, then you definitely are in love with money.

So when 50 cent says that “money is killing creativity in hip hop”, the best I can do is supress a smirk – or even a giggle.

This is the new trend in hip hop: big name stars all go around blaming various factors (bling, money, singing, auto-tune, kanye west, etc.) for killing hip hop. And its ironic that these big name stars were the very people who popularized those factors.

Fiddy hasn’t made his love for the bling laden hip hop lifestyle a secret; he topped the Forbes 50 riches rappers list last year with an estimated $150 million earnings in 2008. He’s sold everything from shoes to videogames and hasn’t shied from trying his hand at acting despite having the acting talents of a brain dead mongoose. So it sounds rich from him when he talks about the “death of creativity” in hip hop.

Fiddy, go make some music and keep your mouth shut unless it wants to rap.
